ADVANCED FIRST AID DCAS

Who should attend?

The award in Advanced First Aid is a qualification aimed at those who wish to become a First Aider in the workplace. This qualification is intended for candidates already working or preparing to work in industry. The Advanced First Aid course is equivalent to a First Aid at Work qualification in UK and meets the same standards. Additionally it is approved by the Dubai Corporation of Ambulance Services (DCAS) and certified by Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance (HABC).

 

What will they learn?

Persons gaining this qualification will know that First Aid is the responsibility of everyone involved in the working environment. The topics are important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health in the workplace. Candidates will gain confidence to use these skills through practical application on themselves and on manikins.

Managing an incident

Managing an Unresponsive Casualty

·         Primary Survey & Reassessment

·         Clearing the Airway

·         Recovery Position

·         Dealing with Seizures

·         CPR Adult

Managing Choking

Managing Wounds and Bleeding

Managing Shock

 

Managing Minor Injuries

·         Small cuts, grazes and bruises

·         Minor burns and scalds

·         Small splinters

Managing Other Conditions

·         Chest Injuries

·         Eye Injuries

·         Injuries to bone, muscles and joints inc. spinal injury

·         Sudden Poisoning

·         Anaphylactic shock

Managing Major Illnesses

·         Heart Attack

·         Stroke

·         Asthma

·         Diabetes

Course duration

24 learning hours (3 days) plus one assessment day, total (4 days)

 

Assessment

Students are assessed throughout the course by instructor observation of the essential skills. There is also a summative assessment of knowledge and skills at the end of this course.

 

Certificate and Validity

Advanced First Aid at Work from DCAS, Highfield Awarding Body of Compliance (HABC), Safety & Leisure Training Middle East*, valid for 3 years. Wallet-sized card included.

 

Entry requirement

Participants should have Basic English skills. Minimum age: 16 years.
