Basic first aid course

Who should attend?

The Basic First Aid course is designed to train individuals and company staff that requires appointed person training in basic first aid skills and require training in the management of specific illness and injuries. The course is designed to meet the requirements of the HSE Health and Safety at Work (1981) Regulations for Appointed Persons in the Workplace.

What will they learn?

Students gain the first aid skills necessary to manage a patient that is not breathing normally, unconscious, bleeding, ill or injured prior to the arrival of the emergency services. Students will practise the essential skills in small groups and will apply these skills in scenario sessions during the course.

Course duration

Initial Training: 16 hours (2 days); Re-qualification time: 8 hours

Assessment

Students are assessed throughout the course by instructor observation of the essential skills. There is also a summative assessment of knowledge and skills at the end of this course.

Certificate and Validity

Basic First Aid certificate from First Aid International*, valid for 3 years.

Entry requirement

Participants should have Basic English skills. Minimum age: 16 years.
