FAQs
| Q. Why did you change from PRM Training to SLT ME? |
Working under our own trade license allows us to be more flexible and serve our clients better as we can make decisions independently. However we still have a strong relationship to PRM International and we support one another. |
| Q. What changed with the new trade license under Safety and Leisure Training Middle East (SLT ME)? |
We are now offering a number of new courses along side our existing ones. Although we are still based at the same location our contact details have changed (see under contact) but the team remains the same. |
| Q. In First Aid you offer UK accredited courses and local accredited. Which one shall I choose? |
Safety and Leisure Training Middle East (SLT ME) is licensed as a First Aid Training Company and approved by the Centre of Ambulances Services Dubai (COAS). We also have approvals of Ministry of Health and Dubai Health Authority. Therefore courses under SLT ME are recognised within the UAE and delivered to international standards.
Some of our clients prefer to have a certificate which is accredited to a UK organization, and in those cases the courses delivered under license to First Aid International UK would be suitable. |
| Q. What is Centre of Ambulance Services (COAS) approval and who needs it? |
As per the Department of Commerce and Tourism regulations all hotels in Dubai must have First Aiders who have been trained by an organization that is approved by the COAS. Their certificates must be validated by COAS. Currently all other facilities do not need this validations, however may request it if they choose. |
| Q. How long are the certificates valid? |
Safety and Leisure Training Middle East and First Aid International certificates are valid for 3 years. Qualifications by Royal Life Saving Society UK are valid for 2 years. However it is highly recommended to update your skills regularly, at least once a year. |
| Q. Can I book more than 12 candidates on a course? |
In general it is not possible to exceed the number of candidates as stipulated in the course outlines as we must adhere to the regulations of our certifying bodies and international good practice. The number of candidates is limited to give them best chance to learn and practice under guidance from the trainer. If you have more than 12 students we can either run a course with two trainers or you could book an additional course. |
| Q. Can you run a course at my facility/home? |
Yes, we can! We even encourage conducting courses at the clients' facility as it has more relevance to their work/living environment. However there are requirements for the venue which you can find in "terms & conditions". |
| Q. When will I receive my certificate? |
After having successfully passed the course certificates will be issued within 2 weeks for all SLT ME and First Aid International courses. Certificates from RLSS UK may take up to 6 weeks to arrive. COAS approval requires an additional week. In exceptional circumstances it may take longer. We will contact you as soon as your certificates are ready, however they will only be released upon full fee payment. |
| Q. How can I re-new my First Aid qualification? |
For most First Aid courses you will have to attend the course once again when your qualification expires. The exception is the First Aid at Work qualification which can be renewed by attending a shorter refresher course, as long as your qualification has not expired. |
| Q. What is the situation in the UAE? Can I give help in the case of an accident or will I end up in prison? |
If you help in the case of an accident and do not hold a valid First Aid qualification and/or your actions lead to worsen the casualty's condition you may be made responsible for this.
However if you are a certified First Aider with a valid qualification you may give help. Nevertheless you should only apply what you have learned in the course and not exceed the limits of your certification and training. |
| Q. I am looking for a First Aid course that gives me basic knowledge and CPR skills which one should I choose? |
Basic Life Support and First Aid (BLS & FA) or Emergency First Aid (EFA FAI) |
| Q. I am a parent and want to learn most important skills to help my children in case of emergency? Which course would you suggest? |
Basic Life Support Child & Infant (BLS CI) or All Ages (BLS All) or Community First Aid (CFA FAI) |
| Q. I am a swimming teacher and want to learn basic rescue and First Aid skills. Which course would you recommend? |
The National rescue Award for Swimming teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) by Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) UK |
| Q. Are there any written exams in your courses? |
Most half day or one day courses are assessed throughout the course and there is no formal summative assessment, and no written exam. Some courses have formal summative practical or oral assessments such as the lifeguard qualifications, the rescue award for swimming teachers and First Aid at Work. Please see the particular course outlines. |
| Q. Who can become a lifeguard? |
Basically anyone who is at least 16 years old, has Basic English skills and is a reasonably good swimmer. If you want to become a beach lifeguard be aware that this is physically very demanding and you must be a very good swimmer. Please check the entry requirements in the specific course outlines. |
| Q. I am a lifeguard holding the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) by RLSS UK. How do I go about renewal of the certification? |
In general you have to attend a full NPLQ course again. However if you fulfill certain conditions you can attend a shorter renewal course. The conditions are:
- An on-going in service training record - Attendance of 20 hours of training with an approved RLSS trainer/assessor since your last qualification - NPLQ qualification must be still valid
In order to qualify for the shorter renewal you must show proof of ALL above conditions! |
