Who should attend?
Anyone who holds a current NRASTC certificate which is due to expire. This course is recognised in UK as the industry standard for those supervising swimming pool programmed swimming activities. Please note that this is NOT a lifeguard qualification.
What will they learn?
Students will review and revise the skills leant on the original course to deal with emergencies that may occur during programmed swimming sessions.
Course Content
Review and revision of:
• Rescue techniques
• Use of rescue equipment
• Casualty recognition
• Rescue and treatment of an unconscious casualty
• Pool Hazards and risk assessments
• Accident prevention and pool safety
• Systems of work and communication
• Spinal injury stabilisation
• First Aid
• Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (adults, children and optional babies)
• Legislation and Standard Operating Procedure
Course duration
2 days in total, 2nd day is assessment day.
Assessment
Continuous assessment during the course plus a final independent assessment (practical and oral) where candidates must show competence in applying skills promptly, safely and effectively. There is no written exam.
Certificate and Validity
Internationally recognised National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches qualification from Royal Life Saving Society UK, valid for 2 years.
Entry requirement
Participants should hold a current NRASTC certificate or equivalent.
