Who should attend?
School teachers or ASA/STA Teachers (Level 2) who wish to deliver the Rookie Lifeguard programme.
What will they learn?
Candidates will gain the skills and knowledge to train and assess the RLSS UK Rookie Lifeguard programme. They learn the basic knowledge of the RLSS, its structure and the Rookie Lifeguard programme. They also will gain an understanding of basic Lifesaving and Life Support skills required to deliver the programme

• The Rookie Lifeguard programme
• Familiarisation with Rookie Instructor Pack
• Rookie skills and key teaching points
• The rescue sequence
• Principles of class management and safety
• Pupil to teacher ratios
• Accurate CPR protocols
• Understanding of Life Support syllabus
• Hygiene and manikin cleaning
Course duration
1 day (8 hours).
Assessment
Continuous assessment during the course. Candidates must demonstrate competence in applying CPR and lifesaving skills promptly, safely and effectively and show sufficient knowledge and understanding to deliver the Rookie Lifeguard award. There is no written exam.
Certificate and Validity
Internationally recognised Rookie Instructor from Royal Life Saving Society UK.
Entry requirement
Participants should have good English skills and be competent swimmers. They must hold either the ASA Level 2 Certificate for Teaching Swimming or Teaching Aquatics (or equivalent qualification) OR must be a fully qualified school teacher holding a valid First Aid / Rescue qualification (e.g. NRASTC, NPLQ, Lifesaving qualification or similar) in current CPR protocols. Minimum age: 16 years.
