Supervisory Management Certificate ISRM

Who should attend?
Supervisors and managers of health clubs or sport/recreation facilities who would like to gain a formal qualification which recognises their experience and knowledge and individuals who are aspiring to supervisory or management roles. The course would also be useful to anyone working in the recreation industry who wants to extend their knowledge and develop skills in supervisory management.

What will they learn?
Students will gain essential skills and knowledge to develop their role in the operation of a health club, sport or leisure facility and how to manage effectively and safely.

Module 1 - Sports Services Operations Module 2 - Employment practise

  • Operational systems
  • Maintenance and cleaning of building equipment
  • Programming and development
  • The laws of employment
  • Employment role of the duty officer
  • Recruitment and selection process
  • Induction, appraisal and training of staff
  • Effective management of staff
  • Theories of people at work
  • Getting people to work (well)
  • Dealing with problems
Module 3 - Finance and Administration  
  • Administrative structure of sport and recreation
  • Administrative role of the duty officer
  • The decision making process
  • Marketing
  • Reception administration
  • Contract law and purchasing
  • Sources of funding for sport and recreation
  • Funding and budgetary control
 

 

Course duration
Each module is 4 days (8 hours per day). Total for the whole course is 12 days.

Assessment
Each module is assessed through a combination of coursework and a post-course, work based assignment.

Certificate
Each module is individually certified by the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) UK. To gain the full qualification candidates must pass all three modules. The modules can be taken in any order.

Entry requirements
Participants should have good oral and written English skills.
